Elected officials should be held to higher standard says Prof. Gershman
Professor Bennett Gershman penned an Op-Ed regarding the case of Assemblyman Steve Katz. Following a traffic stop when Katz was ticketed for speeding and possession of marijuana, Gershman called his plea deal “troubling.”
“Government officials like Katz occupy positions of public responsibility and trust. They are afforded special benefits and privileges that ordinary citizens do not enjoy. These officials reasonably should be held to a higher standard. Indeed, if public officials like Katz breach public trust by committing criminal violations, they should be held more accountable, not less,” writes Gershman.
